Configure AWS X-Ray sampling rules to capture a representative subset of requests is the correct choice because it reduces the number of traces sent to X Ray while preserving the ability to observe latency and error trends.

Using sampling rules trims the volume of segments and traces that are ingested and billed. The sampling approach can be configured centrally and tuned to provide a representative subset of traffic so latency and error patterns remain visible with minimal disruption to the workload.

Use X-Ray filter expressions in the console to narrow displayed traces only changes which traces you view in the console and does not reduce the traces that are collected or billed.
